NASCAR returned to racing today after a 71 day off season, after running only 4 races on the 2020 schedule racing was suspended because of COVID-19. NASCAR resumed with limited exposure to racing at Darlington for the running of The Real Heroes 400, race teams, sponsors, and media personal were all under restrictions as to how many people were allowed to (or needed) be at the race track. Temperature checks before and after the event will now become the new norm, but the biggest restriction was NO FANS.

On the positive side NASCAR was the only major sport to be granted permission to resume somewhat near normal activity with the TV partnership in place for a live telecast from a short track known for action was a major pump for the sport. NASCAR has adjusted the schedule to try and make up races lost under COVID-19 restrictions.

Tue., May 19 Xfinity Series Darlington 200 miles FS1 8 p.m. ET
Wed., May 20 Cup Series Darlington 500 km FS1 7:30 p.m. ET
Sun., May 24 Cup Series Charlotte 600 miles FOX 6 p.m. ET
Mon., May 25 Xfinity Series Charlotte 300 miles FS1 7:30 p.m. ET
Tue., May 26 Gander Trucks Charlotte 200 miles FS1 8 p.m. ET
Wed., May 27 Cup Series Charlotte 500 km FS1 8 p.m. ET

The restrictions on fans didnt damper the intensity for action between drivers on the track, but it did in victory lane. Race winner Kevin Harvick who scored his 50th NASCAR Cup Series victory In what would be an over the top celebrations in victory lane was a subdued demonstration of celebration without fans had the customary race winning driver climb on the driver door panel and wave to an empty grandstand.

Harvick broke a tie with Tony Stewart at 49 wins and is now tied with Junior Johnson and Ned Jarrett for 12th place on the all-time list.
