Yreka, CA…July 8… Mitchell Faccinto won the opening 30 lap Western Sprint Tour Speedweek Main Event at Siskiyou Golden Speedway. This was the second win at the Yreka track in this series for Faccinto, who won the race back in 2016.
Faccinto had a pole position start for the race and motored ahead of the rest of the pack. Setting a rapid pace, he soon found himself negotiating slower traffic. However, Faccinto continued to make the right moves and maintained his advantage when a late yellow flag waved on lap 26. This would seem to give Seth Bergman an opportunity to make a challenge, but Faccinto again charged ahead when the green flag waved and brought it home to a satisfying victory. Bergman settled for second, followed by Justin Sanders, Tony Gualda, fast qualifier Justyn Cox, Colby Copeland, Sean Becker, Jessie Love IV, Devon Borden and Tanner Holmes. The 10 lap heat race wins were earned by Love, Tyler Thompson and Jake Haulot.
The Sport Modified division was hastily added to the schedule, but the lateness of their inclusion meant they were racing for purse and trophies, but not points. Randy Wright took advantage of his front row starting position to win his first-ever 20 lap Main Event. It was Yuba City visitor Jimmy Ford stopping by the speedway on his way home from Oregon to claim a second place finish, followed by Ryder Boswell, Jason Ferguson and Jack Walton III.
The highly-competitive Mini Stock division produced another new 20 lap Main Event winner as Terry Alford took the checkered flag ahead of the pack. Championship contender Zak McMurry finished second ahead of Darek Alford, Mike Kendrick and Mike Whitaker.
The speedway will be dark this Saturday night, but racing resumes on July 20th with a special event. It will be the O’Reilly Auto Parts Jerry Casson Memorial/Loggers Night. The Calculated Comfort Outlaw Pro Stocks will be competing along with the IMCA Sport Modifieds and Mini Stocks. For further information, go to www.siskiyougoldenspeedway.com.
