New Speedway in Wyoming??????

My wife and I have talked about opening a speedway in nothern Wy. Right now we live in Cheyenne but spend more time north during the week. We would like to have in put on the topic. If you have any thing let us know, please. I have done some racing in Cheyenne so I think I have the ideal. It would be 3/8 mile paved oval, with a drag strip.

Put a X in the middle, for figure 8 racing

How far north are you looking at? I ask this because I've heard a lot of grumblings from people in Denver towing to Cheyenne and how far it is to do this (when I ran constantly at BCS, it was just a given to tow that far - it wasn't all that much different than if I'd been towing to Fort Morgan). I like the idea; I just wonder if you could get anybody to go!

I think 3/8 is too small. Make it at least 1/2.

If Cheyenne is having trouble with car counts in a market area of around 50,000 to 60,000, seems like in a smaller market the counts might be even less.

I'd go at least a 1/2 mile with an X for figure 8's. A bigger track might help pull in more cars from the surrounding area.

Where are you thinking of building this?

I'd go there instead of USSR Speedway

Do you think there's a need for that in Northern Wyoming? I know they have dirt tracks at Casper and Gillette. I don't see where you would get cars. Like was said elsewhere, Denver cars don't like to pull to Cheyenne. Next to Cheyenne and Gering, Nebr. (both are 1/4 miles), I don't know where your next closest paved tracks would be. Kalispel (1/4 mi)and Polson (3/8 mi) in Montana? Twin Falls and Pocatello in Idaho (1/3 and 1/4 miles)? If you were depending on cars that race elsewhere, the track better be in far Northwest Wyoming, and I would think anything over 1/3 mile would be a waste of time. Population would be an issue, too. Personally, I don't see much feasibility to it in that area, and no feasibility to it in Northeast Wyoming. If money is no object, then I wish I had your problem.

I wouldn't know what kind of competition you'd have with a dragstrip. I see Sturgis, S.D., Acton, Mont. and Douglas, Wyo. all have one.

""We would like to have in put on the topic. If you have any thing let us know, please."

Ok Blanton, Here mine. I'm sure you'll get a ton of opinions, anything from "put an X in it" to "It won't work because the fan base is weak and the car count will suck". I say before listening to "opinions" Look around and see what actually works!
What do I see working? 3/8 Dirt.Running weekly races using IMCA rules for Mods and Hobby stocks, ASCS rules for Sprintcars,600 micro's and Midgets. (yes ASCS will be sanctioning midgets starting this year)and URSS rules for a 305 sprintcar class. Done! Rules Done, NO discusion NO whining NO questions. No one will have to build a special car to go run your track. They are all ready there ready to run. They just need a reason to show up. I don't buy that because the fan base is small becuse of your geographical area the stands will be weak. Look at North Platte. I've seen maybe 1500 people in those stands for a weekly race of just IMCA mods, hobby stocks and 250 micro sprints.(3 classes) If you put on a show people want to see they'll show up. Run 3 or 4 classes per night so mom and dad can get little Johnny in bed before he turns into a monster and the racers are on the way home before midnight. Not sure how far north your talking but I think you'd see racers from CO. WY. NE. SD.and MT. Maybe not over night but if it was a good plase to race they'd show. I have alot more ideas along this line of thought but I'll stop now. I just had to say something after the first few posts. Don't get discuraged just do what is smart and works. I think it can work. Believe me if I could get my hands on Cheyenne it would be dirt before the ink was dry on the closing papers!LOL! Good Luck Rory...
My opinion is usually FREE!

The track in Sheridan may be available. I can put you in touch with someone who may know what is happening over there.

Smile

Racefan beat me too it about Sheridan WY. nice track, lots of cars from each direction, it has layered parking for watching from your car. good location, right off the interstate. it needs some TLC but the basic's are all there.
