It's strange because I grew up watching the midgets on pavement at Lakeside and Englewood and those memories are the best racing memories of my life. However, as I grew older I began to prefer the dirt.

There, just seems to be more action on the dirt. Slicing, dicing, pitching it in the corner etc.

I'm not sure how many of you have seen a wingless sprint car show at Ventura Speedway but it's a divine experience.

I like watching races on either dirt or pavement but if I had to choose I would catch wingless sprint cars on a small dirt oval.

I love to watch dirt racing, I started racing on dirt, but my interest always was primarily asphalt racing. That is why I ended up racing on asphalt

Hot Topic

I've only raced motorcycles on asphalt and dirt. But I think the degree of skills would apply to cars, after watching them most of my life. To me you would need more skill and practice to be a winner on the dirt. You are doing more steering and feel of the car on dirt, whereas on asphalt you find the best groove and have to stay consistent. Watching a good driver on dirt trying to keep the front wheels pointed in the direction that he or she wants to go while being aware of how far the rear end can slide past you is kind of like ballet dancing (heaven forbid that you mention that in front of a real driver) needing skill and grace.
Don't get me wrong, you still need skill and practice on the asphalt, it's just that it's more consistent and boring until you get two really racing each other.
This might explain why there are more dirt tracks in the nation than paved.~Olen

Dirt of course, but would like to try asphalt once just to see. I feel dirt racing is much more exciting to watch and to race in!! Side by side SLIDING thru the corners 2-3 wide and not touching, man it's the best!!!!!

I enjoy both, I like working on asphalt cars more as it seems getting the car to handle is probably a little more important. I like driving a dirt car more because it seems more is in the drivers hands, I like to watch both equally.

I was introduced to racing, watching my dad on the 1/5th mile asphalt at Pikes Peak Speedway, but every chance we got, Dad took me to watch either the midgets or BCRA run at Erie when it was dirt and I was hooked.

There is nothing like the feeling of hurtling down the straight and flying into the turn and never lifting. Letting the chassis take a set, and drifting through the turn and into the next straight... What a rush !!

I grew up on dirt, and have always loved dirt. Even though I love asphalt too, I prefer dirt most of the time! Now you know why I am happy due to CMP!!!!!

I grew up at asphalt tracks. My dad started racing in Cheyenne around 1960. Been at every area asphalt track since. I like dirt racing too, and would like the opportunity to work a dirt track.

On a scale of 1 to 10

Asphalt - 10

Dirt - 9.5

If you have ever seen midgets or sprints on The Belleville High Banks (Kansas), Eagle Nebraska, or McCool Junction Nebraska you know dirt racing is great. Jim

I first started watching asphalt and first started driving on the Dirt. I like to watch both kinds of racing they are both great spectator sports. Like I said I run on Dirt but 2 years ago I got the chance to put my modified on the asphalt at cns, turning laps on asphalt was something I wanted to try my whole life and it was awsome I'm glad to have experienced that at least once in my life, too bad that the dirt cars for the most part were no match for the asphalt cars. But racing on the dirt is a hell of alot of fun and not even close to being as easy as you would think
