Spent two seasons in the lead car (towing poor Jessica's butt all over the place, God bless her) and a 1/2 season in the brake car with Harry dragging me around. Now, last time I checked neither Jess or myself had a hoo-hoo-dilly containing this testosterone you speak of. ![]() Running the trains is harder than it looks. Granted, the cars are for the most part, pieces of crap, but even crap needs a lot of maintenance. Taking care of three cars to ensure that everything is running smoothly and safely takes as much time, if not more, than any other car in any other division. On nights when the racing is brutal and stuff gets broke, you're at home fixing the lead car one night, then trying to figure out how to get off work during the day, so you can get out to the track and work on the other cars there or play trailer swap and get them back to your shop one by one. Now, on to competition... It used to be that a low budget racer could hook up with one of his/her buddies and spend about $1500 - $2000 and have a COMPETITIVE train. Over the years, even the Train, like other divisions, has evolved. Folks that have bigger and better motors and a little more coin to spend have been dominating. For the little guys, the "hacks", the ones who want to do it purely for fun without putting real money into it, when you're getting your doors completely blown off every week with little or no chance at ever getting yourself a trophy.... well, it pretty much sucks the fun out of it. Rolling around in the dirt of the back 40 at the track with the snakes and bugs and skeeters... if it looses it's fun, it's just not worth it anymore. Do I have the answers on how to make that division fun again and even more affordable? All I can recommend to the track is to look to the past on this one. With all the other "real" racing-type divisions looking to the future, classess like Trains, Bombers, Enduros, etc... these classes have NO business getting faster or more technical or higher dollar. Keep them as bare-bones and as basic and as fun as possible, and we may see sucess with them yet again. The years we ran, you could actually break even financially at the end of the season. NO other division out there could boast that! I'm pretty sure that's not the case anymore. If a couple of crazy guys/gals can spend that couple grand, have some fun, and bring home just ONE trophy all year long, I guarantee they will be back the following season. Breaking it down REALLY basically... and roughly. $Free elbow grease and having fun with friends $Free tires... just about any tire store will let you dig thru their junk $1500 for caging and materials $500 for seats and belts $1000 for three junkyard cars... The two tow-behinds are next to free at most salvage yards, and the ORIGINAL idea of the trains was to be able to pick up some big ol' boat that runs... stock, wore out motor that might make it one season. When it blows, you get another $200 junkyard motor for the next season. What has happened is we've gone away from the junkyard and entered the realm of "racing" with the Trains.... started happening a few years back, and has been a slippery slope ever since. |

From the Pit Tower.............. CheeseHead: It's your site Webbie. I can't argue with that. The technical aspects are great. It's just not the same place lately. JMO I totally agree with CheeseHead. Lately it seems that if you don't agree with a certain few people, your opinion doesn't matter or you get the "BWR vacation". This place, too, is becoming all about who you know and playing favorites. Say a disliked word.....you get banned. Threaten to physically harm a person.....nothing happens. Wow! I think I will take a voluntary vacation and stay away for a while on my own. Very disappointing. |

Playing favorites? Somebody said something that was in error and I corrected them, it had nothing to do with playing favorites. Let me put it to you as plainly as I can..... I own BWR. I run it the way I see fit. If you don't like it.... leave! Nobody is twisting your arm to stay here, there are dozens of other racing forums out there and I am sure you will find one that you feel at home at. Or better yet... start your own forum! It's a free country, you can run your own forum however you like. But if you plan on causing trouble here at BWR then your plan will be cut short because I ain't putting up with your crap anymore. The sheriff just woke up from a long sleep and he aint happy.

Well excu-uooohh-uuuusse me, Cheese. My bad for leaving out the ladies. I shall now refer to all drivers as "shims". A unisex term that won't only cover male and female, but the few transgendered drivers that may be out there as well. I won't be offensive by leaving anyone out of my posts. I take the hats off both my heads when it comes to giving kudos to the lady drivers out there. (Can I say that?) What I mean is I give females more credit for racing than the male drivers. You know a little stronger push on the "drive for diversity" may pick up the train count. Let's see what Nascar can do about this one. That's one hell of an introduction to racing, eh? Where is your sidekick tire girl anyway? Haven't seen her around lately.
