A day at MMP, UT with my grandson...

A day at Miller Motorsports Park (MMP), UT with my grandson yielded some really pleasant results. Last Saturday morning (23rd), we arrived at MMP at 9:00 AM just as the spectator-gates opened for Round 7 of the Lucas Oil Off Road Racing Series. As we walked across the vast paddock and empty garages used for the Road Races Course, I was worried that my young grandson (age 10) would not enjoy our first race together. My grandson is heavily into playing sports like youth contact football and lacrosse. So, a day with his gear-head grandpa at a motorsports event was equivalent to me attending his first lacrosse game. I was also concerned that the predicted temperature of 100-degrees with sustained winds of 35+ MPH might also cut our special day short.

But, I was totally wrong on all counts. I had forgotten that all kids have a built in 'cool meter.' They instantly recognize cool as soon as they experience it around them. The Lucas Oil Off Road Racing Series is jam packed with cool young teams and drivers that don't hesitate to stop what they are doing to openly communicate with young kids. I was totally taken by surprise by this fresh approach to fan appreciation and bonding with youth. http://lucasoiloffroad.com/news

Nine-plus hours later at the end of the Pro 2 Main Event, my grandson begged me to stand in line with him so that he could get an autograph from his newest sports hero, "The General" #38 Brian Deegan. http://www.metalmulisha.com/team/brian-deegan/

What's next? Before the end of summer, my grandson and I will now make a few trips down to Rocky Mountain Raceways (RMR), UT to take in the Quarter Midgets, Winged Sprint Cars, Ford Focus Midgets, RMCS Late Models, Nostalgia Drag Races, Jet Car Drag Races, and probably more than one Motorcycle Motocross event. ~VB
