Evergreen Speedway, WA: Summer Showdown 200
Evergreen Speedway, WA: Summer Showdown 200 Drawing the Best Drivers
Including Denver's Chris Eggleston, "Forty-Six drivers are committed to run in the biggest money race ever for a Super Late Model Stock Car in the Northwest." by: sellsworth Evergreen, WA: June 26, 2012 - Evergreen Speedways Coors Light Summer Showdown presented by NAPA Auto Parts is drawing the best of the West Coast Super Late Model Stock Car racers to the BIG Track the 5/8-mile paved oval. Forty-Six drivers are committed to run in the biggest money race ever for a Super Late Model Stock Car in the Northwest. The three day extravaganza gets underway on Thursday June 28 at 6pm with Fan Fest where the fans will be admitted free to watch Super Late Model practice plus a Beer Garden, Live Music and Driver Meet & Greet. On Friday June 29 the spectator gates will open at 11am with the practice sessions rotating throughout the morning and early afternoon. At 4pm the Les Schwab Tires NASCAR Street Stocks and Foster Press NASCAR Mini-Stocks will qualify for their individual races on the BIG Track. At 6pm the Summer Showdown cars qualify via time trials for the Twin 25 lap Qualifying races. On Saturday spectator gates open at 11am with practice alternating for the Pro 4 Alliance Series (33 cars entered), the Pro 4 Truck Tour and the Summer Showdown cars. At 2pm the qualifying for the support series and at 4:30pm a 25-lap, Last Chance Qualifying race for the Summer Showdown. Opening ceremonies are at 6pm followed by mains for the two support series. The Summer Showdown 200 will end the three days. The biggest reason that all the best drivers are converging is the large purse put up by High Road Promotions operators of the West Coasts largest short track Evergreen Speedway. More commonly referred to as the Super Speedway of the West, has hosted large racing events in the past but not with the massive amount of money being offered for a Super Late Model race. The $60,000.00 plus prize money with $11,000.00 going to the winner of the 200 and $1,000.00 for being in the 33 car starting field are all unheard of in the Northwest. Drivers not making it out of the Last Chance Qualifier will receive $500.00 another first. Top named drivers are coming from all over Western United States and Canada. States represented are California, Arizona, Colorado, Nevada, Oregon, Idaho, Washington, British Columbia, and Alberta, Canada. The list includes four under the age of 18, four what many consider to be the best ever in NW , five that have won amongst them a total of 15 Evergreen Super late Model championships and three that are regulars on the NASCAR K&N Pro Series West. Drivers committed for the 2012 first annual Coors Light Summer Showdown: Gary Lewis Snohomish, WA Eric Schmidt Roseville, CA Garrett Evans East Wenatchee, WA Jonathan Gomez Twin Falls, Idaho Ron Eaton Tacoma, WA Pete Harding Surrey, B.C. That's my wish too here at Rocky Mountain Raceways (RMR) in Salt Lake City, Utah. The late model Rocky Mountain Challenge Series (RMCS) is only averaging 10 to 12 cars per event this year at all of the various tracks they compete at in Idaho and Utah.
In summary, money is very much like honey. Bigger prize-money payouts tend to attract more teams, drivers, and fans. The current promoter at Evergreen Speedway understands this very well, thus the massive amount of money being offered for a Super Late Model race. The $60,000.00 plus prize money with $11,000.00 going to the winner of the Summer Showdown 200 and $1,000.00 for being in the 33 car starting field are all unheard of in the Northwest. Drivers not making it out of the Last Chance Qualifier will receive $500.00 another first. Evergreen Speedway had three different leadership changes in a short span of four years. Then, current promoter Doug Hobbs signed a 25-year contract with Snohomish County Parks which owns the fairgrounds where this track is located. This same contract also gives Dougs High Road Promotions responsibility for bringing year round events to the entire Evergreen State Fairgrounds complex that is located near Monroe, WA. Go to this April-2011 article to read more about Doug Hobbs and his savvy business partner Steve Beitler. Beitler runs the very successful Skagit Speedway dirt-track located off I-5 about 55-miles north of Evergreen Speedway: http://www.monroemonitor.com/main.as...ArticleID=1864 I'm pulling for a Chris Eggleston main event win this weekend. Go Chris! ~VB |
