It's no secret at every track across the front range that tracks are closing or near closing due to seriously declining car counts and diminished fan base. This is bad news for those of us who depend on racing (or watching racing) to keep us sane the other 6 days a week. I have found a new home in racing at I-76 with the Colorado Outlaw 270 class. To start Butch runs a "No Bull" operation and that provides the outlaws with a great place to race and the opportunity to develop our fan base and yes its growing. Second is the organization itself it is owned and operated by Bob and Dana Deroachey they are the nicest folks you could ever want to work with. Bob has nearly 20 years of experience in these cars and is always willing to help anyone who needs it. This is the way though of the "culture" of this group with 25 cars registered and 18 to 19 showing on a given night the competition is off the scale but in the pits there are no "whiners" just friends willing to help you at the drop of a hat for no reason other than they can!
The rules to this class are very simple 1. 12 square wing maximum 2. 600 lbs minimum 3. 270cc max engine size. That's it! Next lets talk cost, A competitive car a be purchased for around 3000.00 to 3500.00 most cars run on methanol @ a little over 2.00 a gallon as opposed to race fuel @ 7.00 +. Because we run on dirt tire cost are way below that of other venues.
So if you are tired of "weekly" drama, have parked your car because you can't afford racing but still want to race, I would like to invite you to take a look at 270 micro racing. I did and I love it!
