RMCS and Double Trouble at MVS!

May 19th, 2012
(Twin Falls, Idaho) Outstanding racing weather greeted fans on a night filled with anticipation. The Carbon X Rocky Mountain Challenge Series brought the biggest field of cars so far in the 2012 racing season to the Mr. Gas 100. The Commercial Tire Super Stocks were on for a double feature night with 15 year old, second generation driver Hannah Newhouse coming off her second main event win of the season just nine points behind three time defending champion Kris McKean. The rivalry has quickly become the talk of the town, however, Daniel Shirley, Kendall Woll and Casey Pehrson are just some of their fellow driver's that care more about winning then the close points battle between KcKean and Newhouse.

The Carbon X Rocky Mountain Challenge Series, Mr. Gas 100 was a terrific race. It featured a fast run from the back by Jonathan Gomez, a quiet, patient run by Bruce Quale, and a special performance by Jason Jefferson. Jefferson while just surrendering the lead to Gomez cut down a right front tire and had to pit, relegating him to the rear of the field. He was able to make his way back to the front and in the final few laps battle hard with Quale for a second place finish behind Gomez. Quale was a happy third after getting caught in numerous battles throughout the event. He was able to make the podium and maintain the points lead.

The Commercial Tire Super Stocks first main event turned into a brawl. An early incident left Hannah Newhouse wrecked and in the pits losing laps and desperately trying to repair her car. She eventually rejoined the field, but many laps down. The good news for her was Kris McKean and Daniel Shirley had a tangle that turned into a yellow flag. McKean was towed away to the pit area. Casey Pehrson was able to stay out of trouble and claim victory for the first time on 2012. Steve Edens raced hard and finished second with Allen Williams just behind in third. Newhouse was next to last, right behind McKean.

The surprise in the second main event was that Kris McKean had been penalized and was not able to participate in the event. Newhouse had her car back in race mode, albeit with less body parts, much like the rest of the field, but found trouble once again. With nowhere to go she was caught up in a turn one pile up. A long red then yellow ensued and after a pit stop to rip off even more car parts she returned to the grid. Meanwhile Daniel Shirley was in a position to race Spencer Meyer for the lead and land in Victory Lane for his first win of 2012. Newhouse was a surprising and crowd pleasing second place with Meyer third. After the dust settled, Newhouse claimed the points lead over McKean by 6.

Paul Browne returned to the winners circle in the Brennan's Carpet Street Stock Division after outlasting the field and a late charge by Ernie Hall. After a long spell from racing (7 years) Dale Miles making his second start finished third after leading much of the race.

The Quales Electronics Junior Stingers once again provided great entertainment for the crowded grandstands as Brendan Radabaugh won his fourth main event. Justice Dalton had early troubles but recovered to race his way back into second. Hailey Douglas had gathered up the lead but found the wall and restarted at the tail end of the field. Her car, damaged, was still good enough for a third place finish..

Next up at MVS; Saturday June 9th, Peterson Brothers Construction presents; Commercial Tire Super Stock, Car Store Thunder Dogs (Double Feature), Magic Valley Pipe Hornets and Quales Electronics Junior Stingers. For more information please visit magicvalleyspeedway.com or on FaceBook.
