California Racing News: Kanke posts win at Madera Speedway!

Madera, CA — It took just about all 125 laps for Frazier Park’s M.K. Kanke to claim the SRL SPEARS Southwest Tour Series main race in the “Melo’s Gas and Gear 125” presented by AmeriPride on Fresno Grizzlies Night at the Madera Speedway on Saturday 21, 2012.

In the Mike Roos Memorial, Kanke passed race-leader Jim Pettit II, of Prunedale, with less than nine laps remaining and held on for his first victory of the season after finishing fourth in the division’s race premier on April 7 in Stockton.

It was a tough break for Pettit, who led from Laps 54 to 117 after trailing Zane Lovelace for the first 53 laps. Pettit finished second while Colton’s David Ross took third.

Kanke battled back from the end of the race after his car got tangled up with Manteca’s Jacob Gomes, who won the first race of the season, as it caused a yellow on Lap 38.

It was an exciting night overall that saw 12 SRL driver’s break the fast time record of 14.320 set by Derek Thorn last season.



There were also seven winners in the other mains including Johnathan St. Ours and Ryan Mosher (Legends of the Pacific), Tony Schmitz (LunkerDaddy Late Models), Ed Rodriguez (Toyota Sedans), Frank Mazzie (Hobby Stocks), John McCollum Jr. (MST), and Mitch Pasquale (4-Bangers).

The Madera Speedway returns to action Saturday, April 28, 2012 on Gene Adams Paving Night/Race #2 of the $1,000 to win Coors Light Open Late Model Series 100 Laps (Split 50’s), Hobby Stocks, MST, Toyota Sedans, and 4-Bangers.
