All Star Race Format Changes
This years All Star race simply put, is 100 laps for $1 million. The best of the best in NASCAR will go all out in the annual NASCAR Sprint All-Star Race on May 19 at Charlotte Motor Speedway.
The unique format, short distance, no points on the line and a large sum of money to the winner, the All-Star Race regularly produces some of NASCAR’s most exciting moments.
The new change will put more emphasis on the pit stop.
• The race will have four 20-lap segments and the signature 10-lap shootout.
• Each segment will have a winner, who then clinches a top-four spot coming to pit road for a mandatory stop just prior to the 10-lap finale. If a driver wins a segment twice, the second-place driver for that segment gets a top-four spot.
• For the final mandatory pit stop, drivers can take fuel only, two tires or four tires.
