Where R the Sportsman Cars?

After seeing the Sportsman class become a heat race I was wondering what happened to the class that used to field 25-29 cars a night? For that group of 8-14 owners/drivers that no longer race what happened?

Too costly? Too many rule changes? Spotty tech? Job loss? Why are you not racing anymore? The class went from one of the most competitive, anyone of 10-12 could win on any given night, to 1 car dominating a heat race, WOW what a change of events.

Tell us fans what happened to the class.

National98, you are a former RMNS champion, lets start with you.

Why are you not running anything, anywhere?

We were not happy about the tires. there was nothing wrong with last years tires. we ran them 2 to 3 weeks. had a couple new sets for this year.

had some frustration from last year. it seemed to only matter to us.
other cars/drivers getting treated differently.

thought there could be some rule changes to make the class better. not sure why we can't discuss as a group with the track.

still think it's the best class out there. don't have to have a 10 to 30 k motor to compete. don't have to have a set of overpriced shocks. pay outs could be better. we used to get multiple checks.

also work has made a big impact, had to work out of town a lot.

good luck it getting feed back. no one wants to be accused of being an internet racer. so, getting feed back from actual teams and drivers, few a far between.

I think CNS is the best track around. and I want to do everything I can to see it succeed. love to race. love to race at CNS.

also building a new car.

see...getting pushed to the bottom with no comments.... their people out there with ideas. just no where to post them.

lot of old late models out there that can be sportsman cars. maybe we will see some new cars soon.

change a few rules and I am sure the sportsman would be back.

get more direct. call some car owners and drivers. ask them why there not out there. make them feel wanted, or important to the tracks success...

is the uslma still running? adjust the rules so there cars will fit in the sportsman class. gets some thinking going on. increase the laps?

I hate change for the most part. but sometimes it's needed. especially change the cost money.

tell me why you can't run an underslung car in sportsman. just ideas. even a fab front end.

I want to see the sportsman class grow to the premier class. super late models are to expensive for saturday night local tracks. should be a select race schedule.

all opinions belong to me. hope they are not considered bashing. just want to share some ideas. again. love the track.

Jim Bob? Eric , Randy, Andy, Matt, Stan, all you guys. speak up. can't enjoy fishing that much.
need that smell and noise....

I'v stopped building mine do to cost of building a car that can be compeitve.. and due to the weekly cost of running a car. I love racing currently at BCS in the supper stocks. but with the cost of every thing going up and the prize money going down its hard to stay positive about trying to build a car and compete in a new class. Everyone has told me I would get the best bang for my buck it the sportsman class. and I agree love watching this class race.

Takes a while to recover from financial ruin.......

My class would be the Sportsman, but realistically the class has gotten too expensive. Sure the motor is limited, but it is too easy to see 30k in a top car to make the class affordable.

I believe local racing hurt itself when RMNS closed and CNS did not change some rules here and there to accomodate over a 100 plus racing teams.

IMO - The CNS Sportsmans should have remained Super Stocks and with minor rule adjustments and absorbed the RMNS 40+ Super Stocks. The CNS Super Stocks should have remained Pure Stocks and absorbed RMNS 40+ Econo Class cars. Of course the 35-50 IMCA Modifieds should have found a home at CNS with CNS coming around to the IMCA type rules. Sure not all would still be racing, but that was a lot of people to turn away.

Because the sad reality is many of those weekly racers are now bench racers. Their machines sold off, rusting in the weed field or stripped down to nothing.

BUT NO we're SPECIAL and we must keep our special rules was all I remember hearing.

Just My Opine

We have only raced a couple of times this year, Being a business owner as many of us are has required me to spend a lot more time working to pay the bills. The cost to race a sportsman is out of control, not to mention my car is worn out. I would love to build a new car but that is also a cost that is hard to swallow. It has almost become not fun anymore due to the cost. I have been told several times if I didn't spend so much sponsoring other cars and advertising at the track I could build my new car. I still need the time to build and maintain a car. It is much more cost effective to go fishing and let other teams advertise for me. I may build a new car for next year, or not.

OK if there is a meeting and it would affect other divisions PLEASE include them, not like the last one about the tires. I would like to see a tire test for the SP SS F-8 and come up with a tire everyone can live with. I don't care if it’s the old Comanche or 75”s or something new as long as we all agree on it.

The last meeting was held to discuss tire changes for the sportsman not figure 8's. It was the tracks decision to put all divisions on the current tire.

I've been helping Bruce Borchardt for some time now and i will argue that he was the oldest sportsman out there, and were not spending money on fancy shocks or new crazy parts. the expense is in the tires to compete with Lee and Tommy you cant go out on week old tires. but its the same as last year every week if you wanna win how bad do you want it? new 75's new 700 thats the only way to be in the front. we have talked of building a new car and trying new shock spring sway bar ideas, but were so close with this 15 year old super stock! why change? I love the fact that we are most likely the only car in the front on pro shocks! every change you make on the car has two affects its all about finding the balance. it can be done. i know i would be at any and all meetings set up from now on for the division.
