Schoenberger Doubles Up At Wakeeney
Schoenberger scores daily double at Wakeeney
Mike Hughes WAKEENEY, KS (April 10, 2011) — Gorham’s Jason Schoenberger claimed the daily double at Wakeeney (KS) Speedway Sunday evening, April 10, by making his way to the Jason Oil Company Winner’s Circle twice on the night. The IMCA Modified A-feature was close among the top four cars most of the race. Shannon Maughlin of Dighton led the first 14 laps of the 20-lap race, with Corey Lagroon, Kyle Rohleder and Jason Schoenberger making a charge. Lagroon then took the lead on lap 15, with the top 3 cars still close. Schoenberger went to the high side and made it work, pulling alongside Lagroon on lap 19 before taking the lead on the last lap to score the win. Lagroon would hold off Maughlin for second, with Rohleder fourth and Danny Morrison Jr. fifth. Heat race winners included Morrison, Jerry Phillips, John Fose, Lagroon and Schoenberger. Tim Watts and ‘The Terminator’ Travis Sherfick picked up the wins in the two B-mains. Schoenberger drove around leader Rod Bencken to score his second IMCA Stock Car feature in a row at the 3/8-mile oval. Adam Balthazor led the opening lap before Bencken took over the top spot, trailed by Balthazor and Jay Hachmeister. Bencken led the field at the halfway mark of the 20-lap event, only to have Schoenberger go to the high side and pass him on the following lap. A couple of cautions kept the field within striking distance, but Schoenberger held off his challengers for his trip to victory lane. Bencken would hold off Hachmeister for second, with Nick Tubbs and Balthazor rounding out the top five. Bencken and Schoenberger won the two heat races. The 15-lap IMCA Northern Sport Mod A-main saw heat three winner Clayton Wilson lead the first 4 laps before Trenton Kleweno of Hays took over a lead he would not relinquish. Several cautions the last half of the race kept the field bunched, but Kleweno was able to hold on to make his way to victory lane. Brian Conness, heat one winner Chris Heim, Colton Osborn, and Clay Selland completed the top five. Blaine Walt and Justin Dietz also won heat races, with Tanner Portenier first to the checkers in the B-feature. Tyrel Smith took the early lead in the 15-lap IMCA Hobby Stock feature, followed by Cody Ghumm, and heat race winners Luke Pfannenstiel and G.W. ‘Cheeseburger’ Fuller. However Smith drifted high in turn 2 on lap 5, allowing Pfannenstiel to take drive by for the lead. Fuller challenged Pfannenstiel late in the race but could not make the pass, allowing the Hays driver to score the win. Fuller held on for second, followed by Garrett Hager, Jerry Hudson, and Ghumm. Schwans was the evening’s race sponsor and provided ice cream treats to race fans prior to the races. The next race is on Sunday, April 24, at 6:00 p.m. with the regular four divisions in action. There will be an Easter Egg hunt for the kids. RESULTS IMCA Hobby Stocks Heat 1: 1. Luke Pfannenstiel, 2. Cody Ghumm, 3. Jerry Hudson, 4. Roger Garrison. Heat 2: 1. G.W. Fuller, 2. Tyrel Smith, 3.
