Alf Rustad... Miss You So - Auto Racing Forum

Alf Rustad August 31, 1962 -- July 1, 2007

So, here we are... two years have passed so quickly. Seriously, where did they go.

July 1, 2007... Myself, my Father, Alf's Mother, and our Daughter Janis all sat in this very living room as I held Alf's cancer-riddled body in my arms as he took his last breath. No more fighting the disease that wore him out physically, but never mentally for so long. No more pain.

If there were any amount of hoping and praying I could do to change the fact that Alf is gone, I would. Often, the more time that passes, the more we look back with certain regrets. There are apologies left un-given, respect left un-due, and so many words left un-said. Alf deserved better and more than I often gave. I suppose in time, all is forgiven, right?

For those that knew and loved him, please... never forget him.
His passion, dedication, and quiet loyalty to the sport of auto racing that he loved so much will forever stand. Behind the scenes, and never seeking glory or recognition for his talents, Alf helped pioneer and implement ideas and processes that are still the backbone of much of what we all still love about our local Saturday night short track.
I could have searched the world over and never found a more loyal friend, a harder worker, a quicker wit, a more sincere smile, and most importantly, I could have never found a better Father for our beautiful Daughter. Janis truly was, is, and forever will be Alf's whole heart.

For all that was left un-spoken and un-done, Alf, I'm sorry. We carry your spirit with us ALWAYS and miss you every day.

Very well said Cheese....I will always remember Alf, I only met him maybe 20 times, but I will remember the times we met and spent together. Whether it be talking and getting information from him at CNS, getting a few pointers from him when I was working for RMNS, or getting my butt handed to me by him at the go-cart track, it was all memorable.

I know your up there watching Alf, you got one of the best seats in the house to watch any race you want to.

You both are in my thoughts and prayers today! I can't begin to know the pain you are feeling today, but I want you to know that I am always here for you both! You are a very important part of our lives and a wonderful friend. Just like we are, Alf was very lucky to have you! Hang in there my friend!
